About Us

Durham Yoga Chikitsa was founded in 2026 in Durham, NC. to fill a void in the Ashtanga Community. With the departure of Ashtanga Yoga Club, its remaining members needed a place to gather, to share in the practice, and meet new students on the path. DYC meets Sunday’s for traditional Mysore style class and every other Saturday for a fully Led practice at Shala located on Broad St. in Durham. DYC aims to create a space that is both supportive to beginning students, and those seeking to deepen their practice. The transformative practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is available to all ages, all identities, all levels of experience, and abilities. All one needs is an open heart, and a willingness to seek more.

About its founder

Jai (they/them)

- I came to Yoga as a gymnast in 2005, and in 2019 completed my 200 HR YTT in Portland, OR.  Asana brought me to the practice, but it was the philosophy, traditions and dedication to the lineage that kept me coming back.

The Ashtanga vinyasa system can be a roadmap to navigate the terrain of who we are. But it is not the depth of our forward folds or our deepest back bends that get us there, but rather the connected state that arises when the mind, body, and breath are in harmony. In daily practice, a refinement begins to take shape. Our practice becomes consistent and attentive. We become engaged. We begin to listen.

The practice does not change the terrain, but rather reveals more clearly and more truthfully what has always been there.

“Practice, practice. All is coming.”
